McCain in Danger of Becoming ‘Whiner’
John McCain’s presidential campaign inched ever closer to becoming one of those ‘Whiner’s’ that his top Economic Policy Adviser Phil Gramm warned of. At every turn, it appears that the McCain Campaign’s only response is to complain about Obama, rarely offering up any new or original ideas or solutions.
In the most recent example, in response to an Obama attack on McCain’s housing Gaffe where he couldn’t remember how many houses he owned, spokesman Brian Rogers responded that this was “by far the most personal attack” of the campaign and that McCain “is a guy who lived in one house for five and half years - in prison in Vietnam”. Claiming an ad quoting McCain’s own words is ‘most personal’ is not only ludicrous, but smacks of desperation. Further claiming that McCain doesn’t have to answer because he was ‘in prison’ only lessens the value of his service and those of countless others. No veteran would use such an excuse so frequently, if ever.
John McCain’s complain, I mean campaign has been on this path for a few weeks now and polls, including a new one out by Washington Post-ABC show no change in Obama’s national lead. Other polls have shown some tightening, but this is expected when you are throwing everything you can at another candidate. It is no strategy for sustained performance, just ask Hillary Clinton.
The more his campain complains and whines, the more he will put off those Independent voters he is so trying to woo. All this time, Obama’s campaign will respond to each attack but will provide references to issues and positions that the American Public truly wants to hear. This was Obama’s strategy throughout the negative Primary Battle with Hillary Clinton and John McCain is playing right into his hands.
