Red State - Blue State

This presentation is a compilation of unreferenced data selectively culled from internet sources and put together into a single format to make a point about the states that have been trending “red” and “blue” the past few election cycles. It reflects the notion that this country stands at a crossroads with the upcoming election and questions the judgment of voters in red states by examining their track record in self-governance with respect to the issues of the day: dependence on foreign oil, the economy, health care, etc. I have, up until recently, been an Independent and this represents my first foray into arguing for the Democratic Party.

It was originally prepared as part of an ongoing argument with my father (die-hard Republican from the deep South), but I’m sharing it. As an example of the contributions I plan to submit to this site, it is not representative at all. Expect future pieces to be less combative/partisan and more philosophical/nonpartisan. Finally, I recognize that some of the data will be bad (different years, selective cut-offs, etc.), but to quote Bogey in The Maltese Falcon “Some of them might not be very good—I won’t argue about that…but look at the number of them.”
