Wave That Flag

Our nation faces the most serious set of economic and geopolitical challenges in a generation. A weakening dollar, skyrocketing trade and budget deficits, a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan, a regime in Tehran aggressively pursing nuclear capability and a saber rattling, petro dollar driven Russia.

In response to these challenges, John McCain has proposed to sustain the catastrophic Bush administration’s weak economic and unilateralist foreign policies that have nurtured and propelled these issues. John McCain’s reckless tax, petroleum dependent energy and myopic health care policies mirror those of Bush.  In addition, he has proposed an open ended $120 Billion annual commitment in Iraq that is being financed on credit and further dilutes the dollar’s strength. It isn’t that Senator McCain doesn’t want to do the right thing, it is quite simply that he doesn’t know what the right thing is.

In the wake of this demonstrated lack of judgement came the true test of any Presidential candidate, the selection of a Vice Presidential running mate.  Instead of picking a running mate that has the credentials and gravitas to step in and take over during these volatile times, Senator McCain made a reckless and purely political pick.  Does he really believe that an individual who got their passport in 2007 and has no experience or training in economics is the best suited for the job?  Clearly, the answer is no.  He made this pick to reignite the culture wars and to use the wedge issues of guns, abortion, gay marriage and religion in order to shore up the base and distract the country from the true issues that we must tackle.  In short, John McCain’s new slogan is, ‘Country Last’.
