Palin? Palease!

Wow. I did not think that the old McCainster had it in him.  At the same time, he was able to contradict his ‘experience’ argument and put his political future ahead of the future of this country he so ‘loves’.  He has picked Sarah Palin, a 1 year governor of Alaska (pop ~ 600,000) to be his Vice-Presidential Nominee. Before her stint as governor, Palin was the Mayor of Wasilla (pop ~9,000).

Now, many pundits and writers are spending their time hailing McCain’s pick as a ‘reformer’, a ‘maverick’, a ‘bold’ choice. Hogwash! This is a women who has never expressed any serious views on any foreign policy issue.. whatsoever! Even on Iraq! She believes global-warming is NOT man-made! She’s staunchly pro-life and wants to ‘Drill, drill, drill’ in ANWR, in her own words!

Let’s take a look at her economic credentials: As Mayor of Wasilla, she led the way for the mismanagement of $20 Million, $2 Million of which the town is still trying to recover from. Also, she was in favor of the ‘bridge to nowhere’ back in 2006 before suddenly now being against it.

How dare McCain?!  How can he be so self-serving and act with complete disregard for this country?  At 72 years old and with a history of cancer, the harsh reality is that John McCain may very well become sick.  Statistically, more so than any other President in modern history.   Knowing this, he has picked the most inexperienced of candidates to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency of the United States of America!

Now I know republicans’ first response is to point at Obama and say she’s just as qualified - but that is ridiculous.  Obama was a State Senator for 8 years and then a US Senator for 4.  Since as early as 2002 he has had intense Foreign Policy vision and was able to have the judgement back then to be against this awful war we are now waging.  Time and again his judgement on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Georgia, etc. has proven correct.  He has also been advised time and again on every domestic and foreign policy issue over the past 2 years.  Lastly, he was validated by over 20 million supporters who viewed his record and judged him to be worthy.  Palin was a mayor of a minuscule town just 2 years ago and was just voted in office by a little over 100,000.

McCain has made a mockery of the vice-presidency and the truth can be two fold:  He just wanted to have a Vice-President that would not overshadow him (like Romney might) and he wanted to appease female voters.  I believe the former argument, but i cannot believe the latter.  Almost every woman I have talked to is downright offended to think that their vote is somehow ‘assumed’ only because this woman is, well, a woman.  Her views on abortion, women’s rights, environment and any other issue are as far away from Hillary and her 18 million supporters as could be.

I hope women across this country see through this sham for what it truly is: a ham-handed gimmick.  To vote and elect a female vice-president for the sole reason that she is a woman would marginalize and depreciate so much progress that Hillary and all other women in government have made so far.  It would go against feminism, to say the least.
